2012 06 25 Spottersday Florennes Airshow

On Monday June 25 I went again to Florennes to attend the departes of the participants. The weather was bad in the beginning of the spottersday but luckily it improved in time for the stars of the show.

2012 06 22 Spottersday Florennes Airshow

On Saturday the 23rd and Sunday the 24th of June 2012, the 2nd Tactical Wing organized the International Air Show at Florennes airbase. The theme for 2012 was “70 years of military aviation at Florennes”.
I went on Friday to Florennes to attend the spottersday. We were positioned very close to the runway which gave us some very nice photo opportunities for takeoff and landing shots. The display line was right above us.
The organisation managed to bring some very nice demo’s to Florennes Airbase. There were as many as four different solo displays of F-16s from The Netherlands, Turkey, Greece and of course from Belgium.
Highlights were the two Su-22 Fitters from the Polish Air Force, the Slovak MiG-29, but the F/A-18 Hornet from the Swiss Airforce was also very impressive. All together there were seven display teams to enjoy.

2011 09 24 NAS Oceana Airshow

This year NAS Oceana air show was held on September 23 through 25. It helped celebrate The Centennial of Naval Aviation (CoNA). With an impressive flying display line up along with several aircraft on static display, some with special CoNA markings, this was destined to be a great airshow! Except that Mother Nature did not want to cooperate. With heavy rains predicted for all of the 3-day airshow, the weekend was almost a complete loss. The best day for flying displays was Friday during practice hours and the twilight show.
Saturday was a complete wash out. Sunday brought less rain in the morning, but low ceilings kept the aircraft grounded until around 12 PM. Due to rain the Blue Angels briefly flew on Friday afternoon,
but they could not get off the ground on Saturday and Sunday. Fat Albert flew Friday at the Twilight Show, but not Saturday or Sunday.
Sunday was a better day. The 1911 Curtiss Pusher replica took to the air. A Skyraider and an Avenger also flew representing World War II navy aircraft. The public enjoyed high performances from F-18s, an F-16 and an AV-8B. Bob Carlton flew his jet powered glider. The highlight of the day was a flying display of an A-4B Skyhawk. Again the Blue Angels could not fly since the heavy rain came down on the base late afternoon.
